Rapp Respite

Rappahannock County is aging rapidly—30% of residents are over age 65. We estimate that at least 200 local individuals are living with some level of dementia. Most remain at home, often isolated, with caregiving provided by elderly spouses or family members under significant stress.

Today, there are no local or regional respite programs for individuals in the early to mid-stages of dementia and/or Parkinson's Disease. Rapp at Home developed Rapp Respite to meet the needs of this underserved population.

The mission of Rapp Respite is to build connection, cultivate joy, and foster resilience in a caring and safe environment for individuals experiencing the early to mid-stages of dementia and/or Parkinson’s Disease. Through engaging and enriching activities, we empower members to achieve their fullest potential, while providing a restorative break for their dedicated caregivers. Activities may include meaningful socialization, music and the arts, brain games, physical fitness, gardening, cooking, field trips, etc. Rapp Respite will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Washington Baptist Church, 180 Gay Street, Washington, VA 22747.
