Among the favorite activities at Rapp at Home are the occasional appearances of guest speakers. They are casual affairs, and before Covid-19 struck we gathered around our big conference table with coffee, tea, or other favorite beverage.  Lately we have been using Zoom or meeting outside with masks and appropriate social distancing.  We have heard from old timer, native Rappahannockers and from "come-heres" who arrived in the 1970's. We have learned about the real estate market from a real estate broker and we have learned about cattle farming from a cattle farmer. And from many others! We hope, over time, to make available the notes or recordings of as many of these events as possible

Rappahannock Non Profit Organizations


Many Rapp at Home friends have a deep interest in what other local organization do. So we have brought in their leaders to describe their work. Our friend Kathy Eggers took note and transcribed them so that they could be available here.


Rappahannock Food Pantry


Mimi Forbes discussed the many contributors of free food for the Pantry, including local farms such as Sunnyside, Waterpenny, the Fauquier Community Farm, and numerous area groceries such as Wegmans, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, and the Food Lion in Warrenton and Marshall. County individual donors, gardeners, and farmers donate canned and boxed food, fruits and vegetables, and eggs, beef, chicken, pork. Catholic Charities of the Arlington Diocese is the fourth largest donor of food. Last year, donors contributed 137,957 pounds of food, pet food, school supplies, and other items.

Headwaters - – A Helping Hand for our Youth

It was the week before the Taste of Rappahannock, a long-time Rappahannock fundraiser for Headwaters that requires time, talent and much effort. We didn’t really expect to catch anyone to speak to Rapp at Homers about Headwaters. Amazingly, four people involved in different aspects of Headwaters - Judy DeSarno, Nancy Studds, Dot Lessard, and Ann Simon - spent more than an hour explaining its programs.

Rappahannock Benevolent Fund

Rappahannock County is unique in many ways. We all know that. Yet it was not immune to the financial crisis of 2008-2009. One response to the greater local need was the Rappahannock Benevolent Fund, which was started in December of 2008. An anonymous donor came up with the idea of helping with immediate and urgent financial needs. This donor created the Benevolent Fund with an initial contribution as an outreach of Trinity Episcopal Church. Over the years, this fund has been maintained with contributions and proceeds from an annual “Celebrity Waiter” dinner.

Richard Lykes loved Rappahannock County. “Old-timers” here fondly remember him as a photographer taken with the beauty and the people of this county. Richard wanted to leave a portion of his estate to improve life in Rappahannock. He chose the Northern Piedmont Community Foundation (NPCF) to handle his seven-figure bequest and to ensure it went to organizations that helped the people of Rappahannock.
